Proofreading & Editing

Editing that improves the sound and catches the slips

Not every text needs to be rewritten. Some texts need a careful final read. Others need a sharper sentence, a cleaner rhythm, a better transition, or a small change in tone that makes the whole piece feel more natural.

I provide English proofreading, editing, and bilingual revision for clients who want their writing to sound clear, accurate, and fully considered. That may mean correcting grammar, punctuation, and typos. It may mean smoothing awkward phrasing. It may mean checking a translation against the original to make sure nothing has been lost, added, flattened, or misunderstood.

Based in Barcelona, I work with brands, agencies, publishers, organizations, academics, and creative professionals on public-facing, professional, and publication-ready texts. My main focus is U.S. English, though I also review selected English into Spanish projects when the subject matter, audience, and tone are a good fit.

My background as a translator, editor, copywriter, and MFA-trained writer shapes the way I read: closely, patiently, and with attention to both accuracy and voice.

What I edit

I work with English-language texts, translated materials, and bilingual projects across a range of fields, including:

  • Translated documents that need review against the source text

  • Spanish, Catalan, and French into English translations

  • Selected English into Spanish translations

  • Websites and landing pages

  • Marketing copy and brand materials

  • Articles, blog posts, and editorial content

  • Reports, presentations, and internal communications

  • Literary and creative writing

  • Academic and professional texts

  • Tourism, hospitality, arts, and cultural content

  • Legal, financial, life sciences, medical, and technical materials

  • Client-facing documents that need to sound polished, natural, and consistent

Some texts need a light touch. Others need more active shaping. I adjust the level of editing to the project, the reader, and the state of the draft.

Proofreading, editing, or bilingual revision?

Different texts need different kinds of attention.

Proofreading is best for texts that are already in good shape and need a final check for grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting, typos, and small inconsistencies.

Editing goes deeper. It looks at clarity, rhythm, repetition, transitions, sentence structure, word choice, tone, and overall readability.

Bilingual revision compares a translation against the original source text to check for accuracy, omissions, mistranslations, terminology, consistency, and fluency. I revise translations from Spanish, Catalan, and French into English, and I also review selected English into Spanish projects when the brief is a good fit.

If you are not sure what your text needs, send me a short sample. I can tell you whether it needs proofreading, editing, bilingual revision, or a combination of the three.

How I work

I start by asking what the text is trying to do.

Does it need to inform? Persuade? Explain? Sell? Reassure? Sound elegant? Sound invisible? The answer matters. Editing is not only about correcting mistakes. It is about helping the text do its job.

Depending on the project, I review for grammar, punctuation, syntax, accuracy, terminology, tone, consistency, style, structure, and readability. For translated texts, I can also check the target text against the Spanish, Catalan, French, or English source to make sure the meaning has carried over clearly and completely.

When needed, I can follow existing style guides, glossaries, terminology lists, brand voice guidelines, or editorial requirements. I can also flag recurring issues so future content becomes clearer and more consistent.

A good fit for

This service is especially useful if you need:

  • A final English proofreading pass before publishing, submitting, or sending a text

  • A more detailed English editing service for clarity, tone, and flow

  • A U.S. English editor with strong sentence-level judgment

  • A bilingual review of a translation from Spanish, Catalan, or French into English

  • Review of selected English into Spanish translations

  • Website, marketing, or client-facing copy that needs to sound natural

  • Support with texts written by non-native English speakers

  • An editor who understands both professional communication and creative language

The goal is simple: language that feels clear, fluent, accurate, and ready.
